- About:
- Crowbar (formally named Scrags) was once an ordinary foal; loving family, an older brother and baby sister. However, that changed when his parents started to argue. His father began drinking and his mother just became very irritable and angry. He would take care of his brother and sister a lot; cook for them, clean after them and tuck them in. At night, he would listen to his parents argue after he would put his siblings to bed until he too had to go to bed.
The constant fighting tore the household apart; mother to one side, father to another and at the time, Scrags and his baby siblings. Himself brother Tatters and sister Tears were alone, taking care of each other; their parents didn't care for their grades, well beings or any sense of pride-- the three of them were close to never getting their cutie marks because of this.
After years of neglect and tiresome work, Scrags' grades as school slipped dramatically. The teachers felt great concern but his parents refused to attend any meetings to address the problem. Instead, Scrags' father began to yell at him; his mother attempted to intervene, but was screamed at and was sent crying out of the house. The interference only angered Scrags' father more angry; Tears walked onto the room, wondering where her mother went. The father only exploded with anger at her, screaming obscenities at the young foal. Scrag's confronted her father for yelling at Tears, but suffered a hard hoof to the left side of his face, injuring his eye.
Angry and fed up with all of the arguing and problems, Scrags got up and began screaming at his father; yelling even fouler words and calling his father the worst things possible. His father tried to strike him in anger, but Scrags pushed his father to the floor and began to smash him in the head violently. Scrags continued the vicious beating until he realized that his father stopped moving. He tried to wake him, but came to the horror that his father wasn't even breathing; blood trickled down his face and his eyes were rolled into the back of his head. Terrified, Scrags washed his hooves and face and gathered his brother and sister, leading them out of the house.
Guilt, anger, remorse and confusion clouded Scrag's head; he solemnly led his two siblings to an orphanage that was close to his house-- he told his siblings that their mother ran away and their father left the house soon after he [their father] yelled at him [Scrags]. The explained to one of the workers their his predicament; the worker was happy to provide his siblings and himself the hopes of a new life. However, Scrags told the worker he just couldn't say, that he was in trouble. Before the worker could ask, Scrags ran out of the orphanage; leaving his brother and sister. Upon seeing him run out the doors, Tears cried and Tatters was now the big brother to her.
Scrags ran as fast as he could out of his familiar neighborhood, down streets and through alleyways until he hit busy town center. He stayed in an alleyway between two large brick buildings and hid besides a dumpster. Terrified and alone, Scrags gathered cardboard from the dumpster and placed it on the ground as a makeshift bed. Resting, Scrags fell asleep, listening to the sounds of other ponies walking by. He slept until a loud clap of thunder woke him from his deep slumber; it was nighttime now, as Scrags stood, dazed and startled. The memories poured back into his mind of how he got here; at one moment, he wished it was just a bad dream.
The sudden sounds of a police siren caught his attention; Scrags became terrified that he would spend the rest of his life in prison. He looked around and saw that the dumpster door was open; he took the advantaged and dove into the mostly empty dumpster. The police wagon rode away and Scrags, noting the calm quiet other than the rain, climbed back out. With guilt knotting his throat, Scrags wept in the heavy rain before beginning to walk from the alleyway. Turning to the right from inside the alleyway, Scrags saw that the building was a tool shoppe. There was a crowbar boasted on the window next a small purple neon sign that read "OPEN". Scrags remembered the forensic shows on television; that many ponies who committed crimes like robbery and murder used crowbars. Talking quietly to himself, Scrags strained to say in his crying voice.
"I'm a murderer..."
At that moment, Scrags got his unfortunate cutie mark; a crowbar. Feeling the sudden tingling in his flanks, he turned hoping to see something that would at least cheer him up-- it didn't. He realized his destiny was now carved in stone; a thug, a murderer, a criminal... Poor Scrags lost hope; his innocence was lost to his own miserable destiny. Scrags began to walk through the town, away from his familiar town; running whenever he heard the blaring of police sirens, until he reached some Celestia's forsaken place. An abandoned field with a rundown shack; it was August and Scrags had not eaten, slept or bathed his he left home. His weak legs began to give and his vision faded as he walked closer to the shack; a possible home. He began to black out, as he did however, several ponies in hoods; boasting tattoos and piercings walked to him. He reached out his hoof helplessly before he fainted in the field of flaxen cattails.
When he awoke, he was in the surprisingly cool, dark shack, surrounded by the teenage ponies. He jumped but was too weak to run away. The pony sitting in front of him; a mare with pink hair, shaved on her left and over her right eye with heavy eyeliner and cobra fang lip piercings wearing a similar black hood that the others wore. She smiled and assured that he was safe here was another pony; a tall punk stallion with a green mohawk, very intimidating appearance handed the foal a tray of food; water and heated beans still in the can. Starved and dehydrated, Scrags nearly inhaled the entire tray; the pink-maned pony noted his appetite for a blue haired stallion that sat in a dark corner. She asked why he was running around so young; he was scared to tell her, but it was his new destiny, so he thought he may as well be honest...
After he told his story, all of the ponies were in utter shock; a grey haired stallion had juvenile respect for the foal's shortcomings, which the pink-haired mare scorned him for. She told the foal that she was accepted here; it was a guild of delinquents and crooks and that they would all protect him and that, if he was ever caught, they would testify for him. Scrags was elated; he had a new family that cared for him, rather than having to care for them constantly, that there was little arguing, but there were a few hoof-fights between the stallions.
The pink-maned mare saw his eye; it was badly injured with direct injuries to the eye. She asked if Scrags could see out of that eye; he nodded no, for the eye was too far gone for sight. The mare asked a red liberty-spiked stallion to bring over something; an eye patch, which was adjustable so that Scrags could loosen it as he grew. He liked it, it was pretty cool. He accepted and was accepted by the other ponies as one of their own. As he grew, he had a lot of fun with his new family; getting his own jacket and finally joining the guild of criminal ponies, preferably named the Dark Hoods.
After years of transforming; from a young, naive foal to a juvenile delinquent stallion with a cold exterior complex, Scrags threw his old name out and gave himself a new name for his new purpose to match his cutie mark-- Crowbar. Today, he is as explained in statement prior; seemingly cold and heartless, yet has that warm family bond. His mentor, the pink-maned mare had dropped from the guild years ago, and Crowbar had taken her place; the initiator of new blood into the Dark Hoods. In the guild, he treasures every newcomer and every long-time member as a family that is always growing and wilting; Crowbar has, for the most part, forgotten his old life. Unfortunately, he had also forgotten about his brother and sister; they have since then been adopted a long time ago by a loving couple and have treasured their own life.
Taken the circumstances of what Crowbar had been through, one would have to stop and think... Is it better to forget all that relates to guilt in the pursuit of your newly found destiny, or would it have been wiser to have chosen a moral path? Crowbar, rather, would avoid that question as a whole; he doesn't want to remember-- he still feels guilt about leaving his brother and sister behind. It was for the best, lest they become criminals as well.
