About:
In an underground project, several scientists attempted to create a naturally-occurring Alicorn. They selected the father-- Unicorn-- and mother--- Pegasus. After inseminating the mare by artificial means, she birthed a mare. However, to the disappointment of the scientists, the newborn was an Earth Pony. The experiment failed-- doctors and scientists pushed blame onto one another, seeing as the theory of Unicorn-Pegasus breeding proved false. The mother, Green Clove, took the foal with her. The father, Grey Crest, was informed that the project was a failure and it was implied that the foal had perished before viability. Devastated, Grey Crest was forced from the facility and was told to never seek after Green Clove.

Green Clove raised the foal, which she named Paper Trail, with the most tender loving care a mother could muster. Paper Trail learned fast: loved, played, until her mother became very ill. Doctors visited her house, speaking among one another about an incurable disease. Paper Trail was too young to understand and beckoned her mother to wake up. The foal was taken into the arms of a sympathetic doctor, while her mother lay on her bed, while one doctor pulled a blanket over her body.

Paper Trail was placed in foster care by the doctor. The doctor loved Paper Trail as her mother did, but with that fatherly bond that she never experienced until then. She was around the age of 12, she still did not have her cutie mark. She was thankfully not ridiculed at school, as it was a private school for gifted foals and she had many friends who took pity on her for losing her mother. It was in the Fall term when her school started its yearly paper. Wanting extracurricular activities to aid in her pursuit to find her talent, Paper Trail took the task on.

After the first afternoon, things seemed boring-- very bland-- uneventful. It took about a week until she began to reconsider her journey. It was until she began to feel, rather strange. Her body began to tingle and a dampness seemed to fill at her hooves. Trying to shake herself from the cobwebs, she rubbed her head and felt something wet. Looking at her hooves, there was ink seeping from them. A bit startled, Paper Trail lurched back to the wall, treading over paper that was scattered across the floor. After a moment, see looked and saw how remarkably beautiful the ink ran down the paper.

With her hooves dripping ink, Paper Trail took more paper and ran over it, splashing ink about with her trotting. After running around and tiring herself out, she looked back down onto her work. As it turned out, she accidentally formed the word "destiny" with her scampering. The door to the printing room flew open as a school master stormed in and scolded the filly. Taking a towel to her hooves to try and clean the ink away, the master and Paper Trail saw that there were small wholes in her hooves that leaked the glistening black.

Upon returning home, she asked her surrogate father why her hooves were seeping ink. The doctor sat her down and told her the story on how she came to be. The project of trying to make an Alicorn-- a project he regretted ever being part of, the impregnation of her mother and the birth of her. In a twist of fate, she was born: not, Alicorn, Unicorn nor Pegasus, but an Earth Pony. If an Earth Pony is born from either the mother or father being a Unicorn, the unbalanced magic sits in the body until it is exposed to a sudden change in environment, which can trigger a unique gift.

Paper Trail looked at her hooves, which have since stopped producing ink, and asked him what she could do with such a strange gift. The doctor shook his head but pointed down to her flank and asked her if "that" had something to do with it. Her cutie mark-- a quill over a heart-- signifying that her emotions play a role in the ink production. With emotions such as: grief, anger, sadness, hopelessness, the magic within her forms into ink that she may have gotten on her hooves or anywhere on her body.

Today, Paper Trail has grown into a strong, willful mare with a passion for art and writing. She writes poems on either her emotions or feelings of her past. Her use of words and emotion in her writing has brought even the strongest Mustang to tears. She is able to control her ink more than she was able to when she was young. With her gifted hooves, she lives as a traveler-- no permanent home-- and writes and sells her poetry. She stands out at the Inns she rests in for the few nights she may be in and many a pony stand with huge bags of bits, wanted some of her world renowned work.
